Cutting-Edge Sliding Miter Saw

Cutting-Edge Sliding Miter Saw

Have you seen the light yet? Laser light, that is. Lasers make miter saws safer and more accurate. They've been appearing on miter saws for some time, but getting one on a sliding miter saw is news. The C10FSH 10-in. dual-bevel sliding compound miter saw from Hitachi, $500, is one of the latest entries into laser-guided cutting. On this saw, the laser line can be cast down the blade's left or right side, it's very easy to fine-tune for accuracy and it works no matter what angle or bevel you're cutting. The line is narrow and crisp, making it easy to align with your pencil mark. The laser has its own switch so it can be turned on or off as needed. This allows you to use the laser to set up the cut without running the blade, which some other saws require. This saw is an improved version of the tried-and-true C10FS. Its dust collection is excellent. The angle scale is easier to read and locks in place with a solid click. The fence is taller, so it's easier to handle crown molding. Dual-bevel means the head tilts either left or right. Boy, does that simplify cutting compound angles! A good hold-down clamp is included with the saw. The C10FSH has a 12-amp motor with soft start and electronic speed control. Soft start gently ramps up the motor to full speed so it doesn't feel as though the handle is being ripped from your hand. Electronic speed control helps the blade maintain rpms under a cutting load. This machine is comparably priced with other dual-bevel sliding compound miter saws, even those without lasers.
