Fold-Down Cutting Rack New Haven CT

There was no room in my basement shop to cut full sheets of plywood. I always had to have the home center guy cut it down to size with his panel saw. What a hassle. I wanted my own panel saw, but I knew there was simply no room in my shop or budget.

Fold-Down Cutting Rack

Fold-Down Cutting Rack

There was no room in my basement shop to cut full sheets of plywood. I always had to have the home center guy cut it down to size with his panel saw. What a hassle. I wanted my own panel saw, but I knew there was simply no room in my shop or budget. Then I came up with the solution: a lightweight, fold-down rack that stores up and out of the way on my shop ceiling.

When I’ve got sheet stock to cut, I fold down the rack and set the plywood on support blocks. Then I clamp on a straightedge as a saw guide. With my circular saw blade set to cut 1/8 in. deeper than the stock, I’m ready to go. For narrower sheets, I use the flip-out blocks in the middle of the rack.

The lightweight rack swings up for easy storage. A single 2x4 catch temporarily holds the rack in place. Two lengths of chain and a hook safely secure the rack over head.
